The traditions of the philosophy of language and linguistics provide rich resources to motivate Named Entity Recognition and Named Entity Linking, two important tasks for HLT.  In this talk I’ll discuss Basis’ data model for named entity annotations. I’ll especially scrutinize ambiguity in names, focusing on some difficult examples, and how we’ve improved our annotation guidelines to handle such cases.
